BTU crews work to inspect an electric meter in Bryan Texas

Beginning November 2026, BTU is undergoing a five-year initiative to upgrade roughly 50,000 Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) units across our service territory. The goal of this extensive project is to proactively swap out aging electric meters - the devices that track how much electricity you use - before the equipment reaches the end of its usable life.

What do customers need to do?

  • Make sure BTU crews can access your electric meter by keeping it free of debris and obstacles
  • Keep an eye on BTU social media for updates about the project
  • Update your contact information and opt-in to text and email notifications so you know 1-2 weeks before your meter is scheduled to be replaced (you can click the button below, or call BTU customer service at (979) 821-5700 to update your contact information)
  • Keep an eye out for the door hanger that indicates a BTU crew has visited your property
