The Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) distribution system can facilitate the delivery of the variety of communication services offered today. With a streamlined pole attachment process, BTU is dedicated to collaborating with various entities to assist with speed-to-market processes for future technologies.

As part of this pole attachment process, BTU will grant non-discriminatory access to its Eligible Poles for the installation of Wire Attachments and Network Nodes taking into account the burdens that these Network Nodes place on BTU Facilities.

The Standard Pole Attachment and Wireless Installation License Agreement is for permitting the installation, ownership, lease, license, operation, and/or maintenance of wire Attachments and Network Nodes on or supported by BTU Service Poles.

Step-by-Step Process for Wireless Pole Installations

Use the utility web map to determine if a location is within the BTU service area.

  1. Applicant: Review Wireless Standards and Requirements
    • Download BTU Wireless Application Process Flowchart
    • Download and Review BTU Pole Attachment and Wireless Installation Standards
    • Verify Appendix A - Registration form has been submitted
  2. Applicant: Apply for Pre-Certification of Wireless Equipment
    • Review Pre-Certification process in the BTU Pole Attachment and Wireless Installation Standards
    • Download Request for Pre-Certification of Wireless System form
    • Submit required FCC report (see Appendix D)
    • Complete Equipment Mock-Up Process
    • Submit all required pre-certification documents to BTU
      • If changes are made to wireless equipment, a new pre-certification process must be submitted
  3. Applicant: Request Formal Site Selection Review
  1. Applicant: Submit Wireless Installation Package
    • Prior to submitting online application form, obtain construction drawing template by emailing toliver@btutilities.com
    • Request Application form at poleattachments@btutilities.com
      • Note: Submit Application and required attachments for one site at a time.
    • Submit site selection fee (the site walk will not be scheduled until payment is received.)
    • Submit evidence of application submittal to right-of-way jurisdiction
    • If application is approved, proceed to next step
  2. Applicant: Pay all required fees for electric make ready estimate and professional services fees
  3. BTU: Perform electric make ready 
  4. BTU: Issue notice to proceed to Licensee for wireless equipment and power service conduit installation
  5. BTU: Perform inspection and testing
  6. Applicant: After passing inspections, sign up for electric service, provide as-built drawings and pay remaining fees
  7. BTU: Install final electric service and install meter; issue final permit
