2024 BTU Annual Report Highlights
The 2024 BTU Annual Report is here, documenting a year of major projects, challenges, and decisions. In the midst of building a new administration building, energizing a new substation on the Texas A&M RELLIS campus, and planning for further growth and service needs in the communities we serve, we were successful in our mission to provide reliable service and cost-effective energy to our customers. We are honored to work for the citizens of Bryan and the Brazos Valley and will continue to put service to you at the center of everything we do.
A NEW HOME FOR BETTER SERVICE
Featuring a modernized customer service space, offices designed for collaboration, and energy efficiency incorporated thoughtfully throughout, BTU’s new headquarters improves operations, customer service, and community engagement while supporting future growth. Construction took place throughout 2024 and was completed in January 2025.
RELLIS SUBSTATION
BTU’s Transmission Division successfully completed construction and energized a new 138kV station on the RELLIS campus, representing an $18 million investment in the region’s electrical infrastructure. This station was designed to meet the Texas A&M University System’s growing energy needs, driven by expanding industrial partnerships, data centers, and new research and teaching facilities.
MAINTENANCE
The Dansby 1 generator has been a critical part of BTU’s power generation fleet since 1977, operating near-continuously for over 300,000 hours. In 2024, for the first time in its history, the 70,000-pound rotor was completely disassembled, stripped to its core, and re-wound with modern materials. These upgrades, along with ongoing maintenance, will ensure the generator continues to provide reliable service to customers for years to come.
SYSTEM RELIABILITY
Based on data collected throughout 2024, BTU customers experienced substantially fewer interruptions and shorter durations of interruptions than the national public power average. In 2024, on average, a BTU customer would experience 0.40 outages per year (Public Power average 0.82 in 2023). Additionally, BTU customers had an average total duration of 39 minutes of outages in 2024 (Public Power average 74 minutes in 2023).
SERVING THE COMMUNITY
BTU is committed to empowering the community it serves, and that means more than providing electricity. In 2024, BTU gave more than $120,000 back to those it serves through charitable donations.
