1. Inspect Before You Connect
Chances are you have not laid eyes on your decorations since you hastily put them back in their box in January. While you're figuring out how to untangle the knot your lights inexplicably tied themselves into, take some time to check all light strings, extension cords, and plugs for frayed wires, cracks or broken sockets before using them, and discard any damaged sets.
